Brew City

Last Monday night we decided to head to Brew City to use the gift certificate I bought though Citadel Broadcasting Feed me Friday Program (http://cbwma.incentrev.com/). I got a $50 gift certificate for $15.

Appearance: Brew City has been around for quite a while. They have a nice bar, and small restaurant area, and some tables located outside right on Shrewsbury Street. The Tables have some cool designs on them, and they are always doing some sort of promotions of different beers.

Food: I started off with a Shipyard IPA (the Beer of the Month) which got me a raffle ticket to Thursday nights drawing to win Jimmy Buffet tickets. For an Appetizer we went with the Soft Bavarian Pretzel Sticks, Classic oven baked pretzels served with a trio of sauces; their own stone ground beer mustard, spicy cheese dip and a Ranch dressing. They were excellent. My Wife decided on the Pulled Pork Sandwich served with fries, coleslaw, and corn bread. This is not the first time she got this here, and she keeps going back for it again. My son ordered the chicken fingers and fries which were average, and I went with the Grilled Guinness Meatloaf, served with mashed potato, and onion rings. It was good, but not enough of the Guinness gravy.

Value: I don't feel that their prices are that bad. Appetizers average around $8, Sandwiches average around $9, and dinners range form $10-$20. Our meal came to around $40, and I just left the $50 certificate.

Service: Usually service is great, but this time we did not get the best waitress. She was not bad, just slow, so getting things as needed took some time.

I love Brew City, and would defiantly recommend it to anyone. Great place to meet some friends and have a good time.

The Old Mill

We decided to head to the Old Mill Sunday morning for Brunch. We got a gift Certificate for Christmas we had been waiting until some nice weather to use so my son could feed the ducks while we were there.

Appearance: The Old Mill is a beautiful place, with the water fall outside, and the ducks, the stone building with the covered bridges to walk across. The quint little gift shop to walk through. The inside is nicely detailed woodwork.

Food: They do have Lunch and dinner menu's but we chose Sunday Brunch. They had a small but good selection of foods. For Breakfast type foods they had Scrambled eggs, Bacon, Sausage, French Toast, Blueberry Stuffed Pancakes, Eggs Benedict, Home Fries, Fruit, and Stick Buns. My favorites were the blue berry stuffed pancakes, and the sticky buns. For Lunch Type foods, they had Pasta with Vegetables, Chicken Parm, Corn Fritters, Steak Tips, Mashed Potatoes, mixed Vegetables, seafood Casserole, and a carving station with Ham and Roast Beef. My favorites were the Roast Beef, and the corn fritters. Then there was dessert, Brownies, Cookies, cakes, cheesecake, pudding, strawberry shortcake, and hot apple crisp. The apple crisp was to die for.

Value: I thought a bit pricey, but the food was very good, and the selection was great. the price was 17.99 per adult, and my son was 5.99. I left the $50 gift cert, and it covered the tip too.

Service: For a buffet, I would say the service was great. They quickly removed dirty plates form the table, and kept our coffee's hot and full. The staff at the buffet was very friendly and would explain what things were as they were not labeled.

I loved Brunch, and then my son enjoyed feeding the ducks with the day old rolls provided to you by the restaurant to feed the ducks. We walked the gift shop, took some pictures of the ducks and water and were on our way, Happy and full.

Chopsticks

So Saturday Night we had some friends over, and ordered some Chinese Food. We decided to stray form our norm (Food Works) and try Chopsticks. We ordered the food to go, and enjoyed it at my house, with some drinks and cards after.

Appearance: This one is tough for me as we did take out, and I was not the one who went to pick up the food. Maybe some day I will eat there to see what the place looks like inside.

Food: They have a very large assortment of Chinese food to choose from. We went with our normal, a Pu Pu Platter, Pork Fried Rice, Beef Lo Mein, and Peking Ravioli's, and then decided to go out on the limb, and try some things that none of us had ever tried before. These dish's were Beef Szechuan, Hong Shue Chicken, and Ants Climb the Tree. I thought everything was excellent. The egg rolls had ground pork in them, the Peking ravioli's were the best I have had. The Lo Mein was not the best, I thought the noodles were to thick. The Szechuan sauce was very spicy, and the Hong Shue Chicken was chicken fingers with a vegetable gravy over them. As for the Ants Climb the tree, it was Chinese Bean Thread with ground pork in a spicy sauce, it was a 50/50 split. Half of us liked it, half did not, I thought it was great.

Value: I didn't think it was bad priced. We spent just over $90 for everything, so it was just $45 per couple. There was defiantly plenty of food. We ate it for days after. So many days, that it will be a while until I am craving Chinese again.

Service: The lady on the phone was very helpful in explaining the different dishes to me. Other then that, the two girls that picked up and delivered diner, and ate it with us were quite pleasant.

I would order form Chopsticks Again. I can't believe i haven't more often with it being so close to home.
